About The Big Island
There are 11 different climate zones on Hawaii's Big Island, so you can imagine the array of nature's most exhilarating sites inhabiting the 50th state. Surrounded by beautiful ocean waters that produce mountain-size waves and largely known for its active volcano, Kiauea, the Big Island also nurtures thriving rainforests, snow-capped mountains, deserts and famous black-sand beaches.

Buying on the Big Island
Because the real estate market fluctuates, it is hard to give exact prices, but recent research shows Hawaii still has a large range of properties on the market. Currently, there are comfortable two-bedroom homes with or without ocean views and cozy little cottages or condos for as little as $150,000. And for the big spenders there are grander estates equipped with 10 bedrooms and seven bathrooms on the market for prices reaching 20 million dollars.

"If you build it they will come"
If your plan is to work your way up from the bottom, there are a variety of different vacant lots available for prices starting under $10,000 and shooting way up into the millions.

Here are a few current listings available now:
South Kona, $489,000 - This two-bedroom, two-and a half-bath home comes equipped with a two-car garage, washer/dryer and dishwasher. It is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood that is close to local shops and the Kona Hospital. www.hawaiiinformation.com

Holualoa, $1,325,000 - This luxurious three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is stretched across 18,000 square feet of beautiful Hawaiian land. It also has a private deck out back where you can soak up the sun while enjoying the ocean view. www.hawaiilife.com

Vacation Rentals:
There are vacation homes to rent for as little as $350/week. Keep in mind that some prices are subject to change, doubling or even tripling depending on the number of guests occupying the home. Luckily, some of the vacation properties are not limited to weekly rentals and may be available for nightly and monthly renting as well, leaving you to decide just how long or short your stay will be.

If you decide to take a few months off from work and the everyday life, there are also long-term rental opportunities on the Big Island. There are apartments, condos and houses for as little as $925/month and as much as $3,200/month.
